Grass frogs are not exactly known for their gracefulness, yet these little creatures move about in the waters with incredible ease and a certain elegance. Photographer Martin Plaikner from Bressanone has been following the springtime mass migration of the grass frogs in South Tyrol for years now. After the last frost, these amphibians slowly start to crawl out of their winter hideouts. They have to find water in order to procreate. With his picture entitled “Pondworld” Plaickner won the world renowned “Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019“ award in the category “Behaviour: Amphibians and Reptiles”.
